About Us:
The Lambing Shed is a family-run business that prides itself on offering fresh, locally-sourced and home-made produce to our customers. Our deli is at the heart of our shop, offering a variety of artisan meats, cheeses, fresh salads, and sandwiches. We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Deli Manager to oversee our deli operations, ensuring our customers receive exceptional service and the highest quality products.This is an exciting time for the business with recent planning approval for an extension to our farm shop which will allow us to build on this already popular department.
Job Overview:
As the Deli Manager, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the deli section within our farm shop, maintaining inventory, ensuring food safety standards, managing a small team, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. You will play a key role in supporting the store’s growth and success by fostering a positive, friendly atmosphere and ensuring the deli section is always well-stocked and organized, whilst managing stock to ensure wastage is minimal.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Quality & Presentation:
- Oversee the preparation, packaging, and presentation of deli products, ensuring all items meet our quality standards.
- Curate and refresh the deli product offerings, including selecting seasonal items and responding to customer preferences.
- Ensure all products are clearly labeled with accurate pricing and allergen information.
Customer Service:
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting customers with product selection, offering recommendations, and addressing inquiries.
- Handle customer complaints or concerns professionally and promptly to ensure a positive shopping experience.
Inventory & Stock Control:
- Monitor inventory levels, place orders for deli meats, cheeses, and other goods, and ensure stock is rotated according to the “first in, first out” principle.
- Track inventory, manage waste, and maintain accurate records of stock usage.
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of fresh products and negotiate pricing where appropriate.
Food Safety & Hygiene:
- Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, including maintaining cleanliness in the deli area, ensuring correct temperature control, and following health and safety guidelines.
- Oversee cleaning schedules for all equipment, utensils, and deli counters.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety in line with company policies and industry regulations.
Sales & Marketing:
- Drive deli sales through promotions, upselling, and creating special offers or seasonal menus to encourage repeat business.
- Work with the management team to develop new deli products or services that align with customer preferences and market trends.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Alongside our Farm Shop Manager you will supervise a small team of deli staff, providing training, guidance, and support to ensure high performance and customer service standards.
- Conduct performance reviews and handle team development, motivating staff to achieve goals and maintain a positive working environment.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience managing a deli or food-related department, preferably in a retail or farm shop environment.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build rapport and deliver a personalized experience.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- A passion for quality food, local products, and a commitment to sustainable sourcing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory and maintain a clean, efficient work environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a small team.

This is a permanent position, and the job is based over 4 or 5 days per week, salary to be discussed at interview based on experience and hours worked. You must have flexibility in terms of which days of the week you can work as we are operational 7 days a week.

With cattle and sheep raised onsite and our own butchery, we ensure every dish is made with the finest homegrown and local ingredients.
As a family-run business, we are excited to welcome a new chef to our growing team. We're at an exciting phase of development, with work being this year on an extension to our restaurant, which will include a brand new kitchen and will allow us to expand our dining area and offer even more opportunities to create incredible dishes for our customers. We’re committed to supporting local producers, and our ethos centres on delivering exceptional, farm-to-table meals.
The Role:
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Chef to join our kitchen team. You will play a key role in preparing delicious, seasonal dishes that make the most of our locally-sourced produce. From hearty breakfasts to fresh, seasonal lunches, you’ll have the creative freedom to help design and deliver menus that showcase the best flavours from our farm and surrounding area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook dishes using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, including meat from our farm and onsite butchery
- Contribute to the development of new dishes and daily seasonal specials
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in the kitchen
- Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations
- Help manage stock levels and minimise food waste
- Assist with the preparation of homemade items for our farm shop, such as pies and cakes
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Chef, ideally in a similar setting (i.e. restaurant, farm shop)
- Passion for cooking with fresh, local ingredients and a love for showcasing seasonal produce
- Creativity and attention to detail when crafting new and exciting dishes
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
- A team player with a positive, can-do attitude
- Food hygiene certification (or a willingness to obtain it)
